Public Holidays

Visa processing timelines may vary as per public holidays observed in both India and your intended destination country.

  • Passport

    • Original passport issued within the last 10 years

    • Valid for at least 6 months beyond the last intended departure date from Switzerland

    • Must contain at least 2 blank visa pages

    • Should have no alterations or handwritten amendments on the data pages


    Photograph

    • Three recent passport-sized colored photographs (35 mm wide by 45 mm high, without border), taken within the last 3 months

    • Facial image must be between 25 mm and 35 mm from chin to crown

    • Taken against a plain white background with a matte or semi-matte finish

    • Scanned or unclear photographs will not be accepted


    Accommodation

    • Applicant must provide one of the following accommodation proofs:
      Confirmed hotel voucher
      Cruise confirmation voucher
      Invitation letter from a friend or relative with their ID proof, passport or residence card copy, and financial documents (email with color scan copies accepted)


    Flight Ticket

    • Confirmed flight reservation (India to onward destination and return)


    Itinerary

    • A day-wise itinerary detailing travel plans on plain A4-size paper or, if booked through a travel agent, on their letterhead


    Travel Insurance

    • Travel insurance is mandatory with coverage of at least 30,000 Euros or 50,000 USD per person

    • Coverage must include all expenses, including repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention, or emergency treatment in a hospital

    • Insurance should cover the entire stay in the Schengen area

    • For multiple-entry visas with a duration of 6 months or one year, coverage for 180/365 days is not required. Insurance covering the first journey is sufficient


    Proof of Sufficient Funds for Travel

    • A bank statement for the last 6 months, signed and attested by a bank official (if employed)

    • If not employed, provide the bank statement of the person sponsoring your trip

    • All bank statements must be dated within the last week


    Income Tax Return (ITR)

    • ITR for the last 3 years (if employed)

    • If not employed, provide the ITR of the person sponsoring your trip


    Cover Letter

    • A covering letter from the applicant on A4-size paper (if employed) or on a business letterhead (if self-employed)


    Employment Letter

    • Employment letter on official company letterhead, stamped and dated, including contact information (address, email, phone number), name, position, and signature of the countersigning officer

    • The letter must state the applicant’s name, position, salary, years of employment, and approval for leave or reemployment upon return


    NOC (No Objection Certificate)

    • NOC from the school/institute with a copy of the ID card (for students or minors)


    GST Copy

    • If self-employed, provide a GST copy


    Leave Letter

    • Leave letter from the company, along with a copy of the employment ID card (if employed)


    Biometrics

    • Indian citizens applying for a Schengen visa for the first time must appear in person to provide biometric data

    • Children under 12 are exempt from this requirement

    • Shiva YSR will book a convenient appointment for biometric data collection and visa application submission at the appointed visa application center

    • Previously submitted biometric data (after November 2, 2015) is valid for 59 months from the date of submission for travel to any Schengen country

    • In some cases, a member country may request a re-submission of biometric data if deemed necessary

  • Switzerland is one of the 27 Schengen Area countries.


    The Schengen Area includes the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.


    Indian passport holders require a valid visa to enter Switzerland.


    When visiting multiple countries in the Schengen Area, Switzerland must be the country where you spend the longest duration. If the stay is the same across all countries, Switzerland must be the first country you enter in the Schengen Area.


    Applicants must submit all the mandatory documents listed in the requirements section above.

  • I only have the last two years' ITR (Income Tax Return), can I apply for a Schengen visa?

    While the preferred requirement is ITR for the last three years, you can submit your ITR for the past two years if that is all you have.


    Which countries are included in the Schengen visa?

    A Schengen visa, issued by a consulate or embassy of a Schengen State, is valid for all 26 countries in the Schengen Area, which include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.


    Can I submit an E-statement for my visa application?

    No, the bank statement must cover the last 6 months, signed and stamped on every page by the bank. Additionally, it must be provided on A4 size paper.


    Do I need to provide a confirmed flight itinerary and accommodation bookings for my Schengen visa application?

    For how long is the Biometrics valid?

    As per Schengen regulations, biometrics are valid for 59 months for all Schengen countries. You will find a VIS (Visa Information System) remark on your visa issued after your first biometric submission. Some countries may request new biometrics regardless of previous submissions, especially if there is an issue with the initial data. It is recommended to consult our E-Visa team before applying for your visa.


    How far in advance should I apply for my Switzerland Visa?

    You can submit your Switzerland visa application up to 6 months in advance of your travel date, but no later than 15 days before your intended departure.


    If I have a valid Schengen visa in my old passport, can I travel to Switzerland with both my old and new passports?

    If you have an active Schengen visa in your old passport, you must contact the Switzerland Embassy directly. You may continue using the old passport until the visa expires, provided the embassy confirms this in response to your query.


    Is it necessary to submit the visa application in person?

    Since November 2, 2015, all applicants requesting a Schengen visa must submit their biometric data (fingerprints, palm prints, live photo, etc.) in person. This can be done at the designated Visa Facilitation Center (VFC) or the relevant consulate or embassy.


    Is travel insurance mandatory for a Schengen visa?

    Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for all 26 Schengen countries. You can apply for travel insurance online immediately.
