Public Holidays

Visa processing timelines may vary as per public holidays observed in both India and your intended destination country.

  • 1. Passport

    • Original passport issued within the last 10 years.

    • Valid for at least 6 months beyond the final intended departure date from Germany.

    • Must contain at least two blank visa pages.

    • Should have no alterations or handwritten amendments on data pages.

    2. Photographs

    • Three recent color passport-size photographs (35mm x 45mm, without borders), taken within the last 3 months.

    • The facial image must be between 25mm and 35mm, measured from chin to crown.

    • Must be taken against a plain white background with a matte or semi-matte finish.

    • Scanned or unclear photographs will not be accepted.


    3. Accommodation Proof

    Applicants must provide one of the following:

    • Confirmed hotel booking or cruise confirmation voucher.

    • If staying with a friend or relative, an invitation letter along with:
      Invitee’s ID proof, passport, or residence card copy.
      Financial documents of the invitee (email with colored scanned copies is acceptable).


    4. Flight Ticket

    • Confirmed round-trip flight reservation (India to onward destination and return).


    5. Itinerary

    • A day-wise travel itinerary printed on plain A4 paper.

    • If booked through a travel agent, the itinerary must be on the agent’s official letterhead.


    6. Travel Insurance

    • Mandatory travel insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000 or $50,000 per person.

    • Must cover repatriation, medical emergencies, and hospital treatment.

    • The insurance should be valid for the entire stay in Schengen territory.

    • For 6-month or 1-year multiple-entry visas, full 180/365-day coverage is not required—covering only the first journey is sufficient.


    7. Proof of Sufficient Funds

    • Bank statement for the last 6 months, signed and attested by a bank official.

    • If the applicant is not employed, they must submit the bank statement of their sponsor.

    • All bank statements must be dated within the last 7 days.


    8. Income Tax Returns (ITR)

    • Last 3 years’ income tax return assessment.

    • If the applicant is not employed, they must submit the ITR of their sponsor.


    9. Cover Letter

    • For employed applicants: A covering letter on A4-size paper.

    • For self-employed applicants: A covering letter on official business letterhead.


    10. Employment Letter

    • An official letter from the employer on company letterhead, including:
      Company contact details (address, email, phone number).
      Name, position, and signature of the signing officer.
      Applicant’s name, job title, salary, years of employment, and approved leave details.


    11. No Objection Certificate (NOC)

    • For students/minors: An NOC from school/institute, along with a copy of the school ID card.


    12. GST Certificate (For Self-Employed Applicants)

    • If self-employed, the applicant must provide a copy of their GST certificate.


    13. Leave Letter

    • A leave approval letter from the company along with a copy of the employment ID card (if employed).


    14. Biometric Data Submission

    • First-time Schengen visa applicants must appear in person to provide biometric data.

    • Children under 12 years are exempt from this requirement.

    • Shiva YSR will schedule an appointment for biometric submission at the designated visa application center.

    • Previously submitted biometric data (after November 2, 2015) remains valid for 59 months for travel to any Schengen country.

    • In some cases, Schengen authorities may request re-submission of biometric data if required.

  • Germany Schengen Visa Information

    • Germany is one of the 27 Schengen countries.

    • The Schengen Area includes the following countries:
      Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.


    Visa Rules for Multiple Schengen Destinations

    • If traveling to multiple Schengen countries, Germany must be:
      The country where the longest stay is planned.
      If the stay duration is equal in all Schengen countries, Germany must be the first port of entry.

    Mandatory Documentation

    • Each applicant must provide all required documents as listed in the visa requirements.

    • Additional documents may be requested by visa experts or the concerned embassy during processing.

    • Providing additional documents when requested is crucial for a successful visa application.


    Visa Fees & Processing Time

    • Visa fees are non-refundable, regardless of approval or rejection.

    • Fees may fluctuate due to exchange rate variations in the Euro.

    • Processing times are approximate and subject to change.

  • Is travel insurance mandatory for a Schengen visa?

    Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for all 27 Schengen countries. You can apply for travel insurance online immediately.


    Can I submit an E-statement for my visa application?

    No, the bank statement must cover the last 6 months and be stamped and signed on every page by the bank. It must be printed on A4-sized paper.


    Do I need confirmed flight and accommodation bookings for my Schengen visa application?

    No, confirmed bookings are not mandatory before obtaining a visa. Shiva YSR, India's first E-Visa agency, can assist you with hold bookings for your application.


    How long is biometric data valid for a Schengen visa?

    Biometric data remains valid for 59 months for all Schengen countries. The VIS (Visa Information System) remark on your visa indicates prior biometric submission. However, some countries may require re-submission for every application or if there are discrepancies in the VIS records. It is recommended to check with our E-Visa team before applying.


    When should I apply for a Germany visa?

    You can apply up to 6 months before your travel date but no later than 15 days before departure.


    I only have ITRs for the last two years. Can I still apply for a Schengen visa?

    While the last three years’ ITR is preferred, submitting the last two years’ ITR may still be acceptable.


    Can I travel to Germany with both my old and new passports if my valid Schengen visa is on the old passport?

    If your active Schengen visa is on an old passport, you must email the German Embassy for confirmation. If validated, you can continue using your old passport for travel until the visa expires.


    Is it necessary to submit the visa application in person?

    Yes. Since November 2, 2015, all Schengen visa applicants must provide biometric data (fingerprints, palm print, live photo, etc.) in person at the designated Visa Facilitation Center (VFC) or, in some cases, at the respective embassy/consulate.


    Which countries are included in the Schengen visa?

    A Schengen visa, issued by any Schengen country’s embassy or consulate, grants access to 27 Schengen Area countries, including:

    Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
