Public Holidays

Visa processing timelines may vary as per public holidays observed in both India and your intended destination country.

  • Passport

    • Must be original and issued within the last 10 years.

    • Should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the last intended departure date from Malta.

    • Must have at least two blank visa pages.

    • No alterations or handwritten amendments allowed on the data pages.


    Photograph

    • Three recent color passport-size photos (35 mm x 45 mm) without a border.

    • Taken within the last three months.

    • Facial image must be 25 mm to 35 mm from chin to crown.

    • Plain white background with a matte or semi-matte finish.

    • Scanned or unclear photographs will not be accepted.


    Accommodation Proof

    Provide one of the following:

    • Confirmed hotel reservation or cruise confirmation voucher.

    • If staying with friends or relatives, provide:
      Invitation letter from the host.
      Host’s ID proof, passport, or residence card copy.
      Host’s financial documents (colored scanned copies via email are acceptable).


    Flight Ticket

    • Confirmed round-trip reservation (India to Malta & return).


    Itinerary

    • Day-wise itinerary detailing travel plans.

    • Printed on plain A4 paper or on a travel agent's letterhead (if booked through an agent).


    Travel Insurance

    • Mandatory with coverage of at least 30,000 Euros or 50,000 USD per person.

    • Should cover:
      Repatriation for medical reasons.
      Urgent medical attention or emergency hospitalization.

    • Must be valid for the entire Schengen stay.

    • For applicants of 6-month or 1-year multiple-entry visas, insurance for the first journey is sufficient.


    Proof of Financial Means

    • Last 6 months’ bank statement, signed and attested by a bank official.

    • Must be dated within the last week.

    • If the applicant is sponsored, provide the sponsor’s bank statement.


    Income Tax Returns (ITR)

    • ITR assessment for the last 3 years (if employed).

    • If sponsored, provide the sponsor’s ITR.


    Cover Letter

    • Employed applicants: Submit a cover letter on A4-sized paper.

    • Self-employed applicants: Submit a cover letter on official business letterhead.


    Employment Letter

    • Issued on official company letterhead, stamped, and dated.

    • Must include:
      Company’s contact details (address, email, phone number).
      Applicant’s name, position, salary, years of employment.
      Approval of leave & confirmation of position upon return.


    No Objection Certificate (NOC)

    • For students/minors: NOC from school/institute along with a copy of the student ID card.


    GST Copy (For Self-Employed Applicants)

    • Self-employed applicants must provide a GST registration copy.


    Leave Letter

    • If employed, provide a leave letter from the company along with a copy of the employment ID card.


    Biometric Data Requirement

    • Indian citizens applying for a Schengen visa for the first time must provide biometric data in person.

    • Children under 12 years are exempted.

    • Shiva YSR will assist in booking a biometric appointment at the designated Visa Application Center.

    • Previously submitted biometric data (after November 2, 2015) is valid for 59 months across all Schengen countries.

    • In some cases, re-submission may be required if a Schengen member country deems it necessary.

  • Malta & the Schengen Visa Guidelines

    • Malta is one of the 26 Schengen countries.


    • The Schengen Area includes the following countries:
      Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.


    • If visiting multiple Schengen countries, Malta must be:
      The country where you spend the longest duration.
      OR, if stays in all Schengen countries are equal, Malta must be the first point of entry.


    • Each applicant must provide all mandatory documents as per the requirements section.

    • Visa fees may fluctuate based on changes in the Euro exchange rate.


    • Visa fees are non-refundable, regardless of whether the visa is approved or rejected.

  • Do I need to provide a confirmed flight itinerary and accommodation bookings for my Schengen visa application?

    How early should I apply for my Malta Visa?

    You can apply for your Malta visa as early as 6 months before your travel date but no later than 15 days before departure.


    Is travel insurance mandatory for a Schengen visa?

    Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for all 26 Schengen countries. You can apply for travel insurance online instantly.


    Can I submit an E-statement for my visa application?

    No, your bank statement must be from the last 6 months, printed on A4-sized paper, and stamped & signed on every page by the bank.


    How long is my Biometrics valid for Schengen visas?

    As per Schengen rules, biometric data (fingerprints & facial recognition) is valid for 59 months across all Schengen countries. You can check for a VIS (Visa Information System) remark on your previous Schengen visa. However, some countries may require fresh biometrics with every application. We recommend checking with our E-Visa Application Team before applying.


    I only have the last two years' ITR (Income Tax Returns). Can I still apply for a Schengen visa?

    While ITR for the last three years is preferred, you may apply with ITR for the last two years if required.


    If I have a valid Schengen visa on my old passport, can I travel to Malta with both old and new passports?

    If you have a valid Malta Schengen visa on an old passport, you must email the Malta Embassy for confirmation. If approved, you can travel with both passports until the visa expires.


    Is it necessary to submit my visa application in person?

    Yes, since November 2, 2015, all applicants must submit biometrics (fingerprints, palm print, and live photo) in person at either a Visa Facilitation Center (VFC), consulate, or embassy, depending on the country’s requirements.


    Which countries are included in the Schengen visa?

    A Schengen visa, issued by any Schengen country’s embassy or consulate, is valid for all 26 Schengen countries, including:
